After making two appearances on All in the Family, Maude was given her own show. Maude is an outspoken, middle-aged, politically liberal woman who lives with her fourth husband, Walter. Maude was a groundbreaking series and, at the time, was one of the most controversial shows on television. In 1977, Bea Arthur won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Maude.
